Houseman Description
A Houseman is generally tasked with the daily “hands on” duties in a residence, and he is often counted on to help ensure the smooth and orderly running of a residence. Responsibilities include heavy housework, such as cleaning floors, vacuuming, polishing silver, accepting heavy deliveries, and moving furniture and other items. A Houseman may also perform a range of other duties, such as filling in for the Housekeeper if she calls in sick, watching the children, or helping the Chef in preparation for a formal dinner party.
The Houseman may also be required to care for the core grounds of a residence, including the main entry area of the house and the walkways. In a household in which there is only a Houseman (i.e., not additional domestic staff), the Houseman also typically does what a Housekeeper would be required to do. In residences that have broader domestic staffs, The Houseman may also serve as a “right-hand man” to an Estate or Household Manager or to another domestic staff leader. Houseman may be live-in or live-out.
A Houseman’s salary depends on your location, the particular job requirements, and the level of experience of the Candidate. Benefits, perks, and other forms of compensation provided by the Employer also affect salary requirements.
