House Manager / Property Manager Description
A House Manager is typically responsible for overseeing and providing hands-on management of an Employer’s residence. A House Manager may be the head domestic staff member to which other staff members report, or he or she may work under an Estate Manager. A Household/Property Manager typically has a broad knowledge base relating to general household management duties.
A House Manager’s specific responsibilities vary with the size of an Employers Household, and duties typically include hiring, directing, and terminating other household staff; liaising with and overseeing vendors and contractors; booking travel arrangements; maintaining household security; running errands; organizing and running large household events, parties, etc.; managing the household calendar; performing basic financial management tasks; and managing and personally executing special projects.
Additional duties may also include certain Houseman or Housekeeper responsibilities, such as providing basic handyman services and completing home maintenance tasks; maintaining household inventories; procuring supplies, including groceries, food service, and cleaning supplies; maintaining a neat and attractive outside and inside appearance for the residence; performing hands-on housekeeping (for example, doing laundry and ironing; cleaning the kitchen, bath, and living areas; organizing closets, pantries, etc.; caring for art, antiques, and fine furniture; etc.); driving family members, associates, and guests to appointments and engagements; and more.
A House Manager’s overall objective is to help make sure that his or her Employer’s life at their residence is as carefree as possible. Household Managers wear many hats, and they must stay fully on top of the many details of running an Employer’s home. The Household/Property Manager may live in or out of their Employer’s residence, but the position is often a live-in role.
Salary for a House Manager / Property Manager depends on your location, the particular job requirements, and the level of experience of the Applicant. Benefits, perks, and other forms of compensation provided by the Employer also affect salary requirements.
